Philadelphia City Paper

October 5, 1990
Sue Spolan feature article

Sue Spolan, while writing a feature on Philadelphia's lack of a public access facility, made reference to Chicago's thriving scene: "Just think, we could have our very own 'This Week in Joe's Basement.'" Friends of Joe's sent him the clipping, he sent Ms. Spolan a tape, and she wrote this flattering blurb, which Joe responds to in Episode 23: "Through the Eyes of Others."

Excerpt:

"Winston is the star of the show... He introduces [it] while vigrorously stuffing his mouth with pretzels, tearing the sides of the cellophane bag in the rush to get food in his mouth... He's wearing an old T-shirt sporting the name of a local Chicago restaurant in loud white cursive across the front. His hair is a little messed up. And jeez, is he cute."
